- This manufacturing deficit will not "correct itself" just by jacking up tariffs. Have you seen the dilapidated steel mills of Baltimore, MD and Pittsburgh, PA? Have you viewed the closed, run down, textile and paper mills across the country, such as the ones in Roanoke, VA and Franklin, VA?

- I agree wholeheartedly. We're watching China be pushed through an accelerated industrial revolution by corporations of the West and a Chinese government who has decided they like the wealth of capitalism and the control of communism.

- @EEngineer - Yes, a large part of the NYT article addressed the slave labor which is undoubtedly a large part of the reason companies like Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, HP, et al. use Foxconn.

- Yep, that's precisely right. As soon as I migrated to Timeline, back when they opened it up initially, ALL of my privacy settings were set to public. All of my old posts, photos, notes were retroactively set to public.

- You completely missed the point. Honan doesn't hate his job, he's pointing out the reality of it all: It's all meaningless. All the marketing, all the device and platform proselytizing, all the fanboy wars - all utterly meaningless.

- It doesn't matter whether Jobs is around or not. It doesn't matter now because the rest of the executive staff and the board of directors are all from the "Jobs era". Jobs left a significant imprint on people like Cook, Cue, Mansfield, and Ive.

- I'm starting to think this event is probably going to be about Apple trying to get into textbooks. That was an area Steve Jobs wanted to address before his passing and one of the things I agree with him on. With eInk readers and tablets, cost savings to students and schools could be massive.
